Happy Sam Folk Evening

Date: 21 April 2017
Time: 20:00
- 23:00
Location: Bredfield Village Hall, IP13 6AX

Big Sing - rousing songs led by some special guests. Karen Harris and Bill Wilkes have been immersed in English folk music for most of their lives. They have performed at many festivals as part of GU4 (Guffaw). Based in Leicestershire, their rich sound has won many fans and has taken them to clubs and festivals throughout England. Armed only with a set of pitch pipes, they perform a wide variety of material ranging from gentle and sensitive love songs that can hold an audience rapt in silence, to raucous chorus numbers.Karen has a clear, sweet and haunting voice that sends shivers down the spine, whilst Bill’s deep rich dark-brown voice resonates round the room. Together they are masters at getting a roomful of singers to raise the roof. Their repertoire comes straight from the English tradition or from contemporary writers such as Peter Bellamy, Graeme Miles, Benny Graham and George Thomas. Their renditions are well-crafted and carry a spark of spontaneity delivered with enthusiasm and a healthy slice of good humour.

Gorgeous harmony singing and plenty of opportunity for you to join in with them.

Happy Sam Folk Evenings will start with a guest performance, followed by a music break for anyone who wants to play. After that the guest will answer questions and talk about their specialist knowledge and enthusiasm for their type of music. They will also encourage anyone who wants to join in with them, either playing or singing. It is hoped this will become a general session for all who wish to participate or just enjoy.

There is no bar so bring your own drinks, though an empty tankard can be filled from an honesty ale barrel provided. As well as the guest CD’s to buy there will be a table for donated CD’s etc. This will be a chance to purchase and try out some music not heard before, whilst helping a local charity - Suffolk Mind

Tickets are on the door and will be £5

7.30 for 8pm start
