If someone was having a heart attack
would you know how to operate the defibrillator?
First of all where is the defibrillator? On the outside of the Village Hall by the kitchen door
How do you get into it? You need to call 999 and the operator will tell you the code to release the defibrillator. People who work in the Village Shop will know the code as it is on the whiteboard in the store room.
You key in the code and the drawer will drop revealing the defibrillator in its case. If you are still in contact with the 999 operator they will assist you, but if not, when you open the pack the machine will talk you through the process.
Defibrillators are designed to be used by lay persons; the machine guides you through the process with verbal instructions and visual prompts: once in position the machine analyses the heart rhythm - if needed a shock may be given to restore a stable rhythm: They are safe and will not allow a shock to be given unless the heart’s rhythm requires it
You can watch a useful video demonstration on You Tube
When you have finished using the defibrillator please inform David Hepper 01394 386565 or any Parish Councillor as the pads need to be replaced.
