Anyone passing the Bredfield Green cannot help but to have noticed the improvements the recent Working Parties have made to the Club grounds. You may have thought you had put on a metre or so as you can now see the Clubhouse from the Car Park! We have taken about a metre off the hedges facing the Community Hall and the Car Park; they were getting impossible to keep trim so some drastic manicuring was carried out earlier this month. Our thanks go to Terry for being a major driving force. The new shed is now up and just needs to be painted and fitted out internally so that the mats, cotts, scoreboards, and pushers etc. can be conveniently stowed. Some of the older equipment will be stored in the new shed freeing up equipment space. The old shed has been dismantled which gives a far less cluttered feel to the south-west corner of the Green, and our thanks go to Brian for the new picket fence in front of the Pavilion. Unfortunately our Gazebo failed to survive the end of last season and we are looking to provide a covered area near the new shed. We will be opening our Green on Saturday 22nd April starting at 13:00 with an informal Roll-Up. Anyone interested in seeing or indeed trying Green Bowls is more than welcome to come up on the 22nd and get involved. We will also be holding a Bowls Drive starting at 14:00 on Saturday 29th April. This will be a competition restricted to Club Players and another chance to get the cobwebs off the woods ! We will be holding three Open Tournaments (Saturdays - 27th May; 15th July; 26th August), inviting other Clubs and Players to attend and contest for £150.00 Prize Money at each Tournament. Additionally this year Terry is running five Open Pairs Tournaments, on Wednesdays (17th May; 14th June; 12th July; 9th August and 26th August). All these events start at 10:00 in the morning and go on into the afternoon. Spectators are welcome to come along, our small Bar will be open and there will be catering available.
The Classic Car Show this year will be taking place on the Playing Field in August and again we are hoping to have this event recognised within the Classic Cars Calendar. This year we will be occupying the Community Hall as well so we will be looking for 'Collectibles', and 'Bric-a-Brac' stalls etc. to interest those who may not be so 'classic car orientated'. If you wish to have a stall please get in touch.
We start our League Matches on Tuesday 25th April at Home to Melton, continuing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and Wednesday afternoons until Tuesday 22nd August when we meet Hollesley at their Club. Two Open Tournaments, and a Bowls Drive on Saturday 9th September (14:00) brings our season to a close. There will be an End of Season Dinner and our Green slowly goes back to sleep ready to start doing it all again in 2018.
Remember, we are now hosting the monthly Village Quiz all year long. Bredfield Bowls Club is actively looking for new Sponsors . In return for a sponsorship donation (be it meagre or magnificent) we are prepared to incorporate Sponsorship details in the Tournament papers or to distribute any sponsors' literature during our events. If you would like to raise awareness of your Business please let us know how we may be able to help you. Please also keep an eye on this Webpage for updates, and the new Village Notice Board and Village Shop for Flyers and Information.
Bredfield Bowls Club is open to both sexes, all ages and all abilities. The sport's fascination is in its apparent 'easiness'; - what could be simpler than rolling a 'wood' on a nice piece of grass? Getting the 'bias', 'weight' and 'green' right is not something picked up overnight. But gaining that skill is an interesting (and often frustrating) journey. If it was that easy it would cease to be a sport !
If you would like to know more about Green Bowling and the Bredfield Club, or would like to give Bowling a try, come along and watch a match (that's really how we all start), alternatively you can contact :
Charlie Reed (Chairman) on 01473 613158 or Julie Kemp (Secretary) on 01473 738227 - we look forward to hearing from you.
